Way to big. Use 3/0, 4/0, or 5/0. Typically the hook should be in the top 1/4 to 1/3 of the length of the worm.

WHOA! You better scale that hook back down to a 4/0 or 5/0 Gamakatsu and you will be ready to hit the water.

Good luck & tight lines!

too big! i suppose you could use a hook of that mammoth size if thats what you had but i however would go for somthing a lil bit smaller, i dont hardly ever go over 4/0 because of the fact that whether tournament fishing or otherwise you may miss more bites because of a hook size being too large, i understand bass have large mouths lol but still ive found the larger the hook the more missed strikes soo i go for 3/0-4/0 because it is small enough for smaller bass to easily bite and most definetly easy for larger bass to bite remeber the saying: you can catch a big fish on a small hook but you cant catch a small fish on a big hook! just my opinion but fishing is all about fun and at the end of the day the more fish youve landed the better your day was soo next time try some 3/0-4/0 worm hooks preferably basspro's theyre the best for the money

I would say that both hooks are WAY TOO BIG for that bait! I live in Florida and use a Bass Assasin (June Bug/Blue Tail) worm probably 70% of the time I am fishing a worm. On the 6" model I like a 3/0 if the cover is really thick. If it is sparse I may go to a 4/0. I use a straight shank Gamagatsu straight shank hook because of the way it comes through the cover. Remember there are no rules so don't let me or anyone else tell you something can't work! You never know the next goofy thing you do may just be the next fishing craze....

I think I would have to say No, those are a little too big. I rely on the Bass Assassin a LOT, and have caught a lot of large bass on it. I have found that a 5/0 offset hook (look up Bass Pro part #38-424-540-25 for black, 38-424-542-25 for red, or 38-446-153-25 black if you prefer Owner brand). Typically offset worm hooks works best, I prefer when the point is in-line with the offset that helps to keep the bait straight, and prevent snags when fishing lilly pads. The red hook adds the bloody injured bait fish look, and increases reaction strikes. You nose hook it through the center go down about half inch and come out the bottom, pull the bait up to the offset. Put the bend of the hook up to the bait to see where it will go through the bait so it sits straight, now go through that point with the hook from the bottom up. Try to go all the way through at 90 degrees to the body keeping it centered as well. The tip should come through just before the end of the slit on the Assassin. This will keep the point of the hook inside the flaps of the bait to keep it weedless yet make hook sets easier. The 5/0 is the best length I have found, it keeps the main body straight so you get a nice jerk bait action to it, but still allows the tail to flip around. Make sure your hook goes through exact center at the head, and body. If the bait pulls or rolls then it is hooked wrong. Sometimes I re-rig three to four times to get the bait perfect, but when it is it's deadly.

Yes, it can work but the bulk size of the hook can potentially kill some action. I suggest a 5/0 extra wide gap for the best type of action.

It depends on the cats. For smaller channel cats and all bullheads it is a good hook size. For large channel, blues, or Flatheads it is too small. It all depends on the target and what you want to catch. I would think that you are talking what I refer to as eater channel cats (under 5#) and that size hook is just fine.

A number 2 eagle claw is ok for cats, but a 1/0 circle hook is far better as it takes out the chance of operator error on hook sets, it is a small enough hook for small cats and big enough to keep the moderately big ones buttoned.

It is a good hook for cats if you are using it for worms and m&m combos. Though i use a Kahle hook for cut baits they work better. but using those you would miss the crappies.

I usually use number 2 eagle claw hoods for cats and I do just fine with them. Catfish are powerful fighters and a number 2 hook insures a solid hookset. The hook is also small enough for you to catch most other freshwater fish too.

All depends on the bait you're putting with it and how you want it rigged. If you're nose hooking a 4" drop shot worm in open water, a #4 Octopus style hook might do the trick. Nose hook something like a gobbie and it migh take a #1. On the other hand I've used a 7" trick worm with good results along the outside edge of grass and texas rigged it on a #03 wide gap for fewer snags. Match the rig to your conditions and don't put limits on it.

I would try a size 1 or 2 hook because after you tie it on you want the hook sticking straight out. If you use a hook too large the weight will make it droop and that will kill the action of your bait.

I like the Eagle Claw laser sharp L141 kahle style hook. 2/0 or 3/0 is a good size. There are other hooks with similar designs like the swim bait model someone else mentioned. Any similar design in a quality brand should work fine as long as it is SHARP.
I snell mine with a couple feet of 40lb florocarbon leader. Pickerel or pike are a posibility in some places I fish for bass. The leader gives some protection from them bitting off the line or me! Leader gives you something to grab to get the fish under control so you can grab them properly to unhook them. Quicker rigging also.

Depends. If you're using shiner with the hook inserted in the body of the shiner, then the Eagle Claw® Lazer Sharp® Swimbait Hook will work well. But, if you're using a shiner with the hook attached at the end or on the bottom, use the Eagle Claw® Lazer Sharp® Swimbait Hook because it ensures the fish will stay on the hook. Overall, Eagle Claw hooks work very well with hard baits because fish won't be able to escape it!

Question
Hooks for slow biting bass.
I use a 4/0 wire worm hook with plastics for bass in the Fall. With the slow bite, I am getting too many gut hooks which I cut off. Is there a better type of hook to use this time of the year?

For most average sized plastic worms (6") I use a 2/0 hook and never have a problem. I upsize to a 4/0 or 5/0 with a large plastic worm (10"-12"). I think the problem may be a combination of things. First the use of too long a hook with a smaller worm giving it more reach to the back of the gullet. Second you are fishing fall with a slow and light bite which means you are moving everything slowly and strikes are harder to detect giving the bass time to swallow the worm. Try a smaller hook and perhaps make a quicker hookset.

That is a tough one... Hooks vary buy brand an design some. An even hook to hook a little bit at times. 5/0 should have "about" a 1/2"gap bare. If there is lead on the hook past the point that changes the gap in my view. You should find out the official view on gap size though! I think the 5/0 shown here should work for you one way or the other.
I think the only way to be really sure is to measure an tweak if needed.
An be sure to sharpen your snag hooks well for best results
