Braided line is used for many different types of fishing. It is known for its crude strength and sensibility. You will get more stronger hook sets with braid. It is also a lot smaller in diameter than monofilament too, which braid is so popular The down side is that the fish will sense the lack of stretch in the line and be less likely to follow through with the bite. For bass fishing, the desired poundage is 8-12 pounds. Some even use 14 pound.

Braid line is preferable for saltwater fishing. It has a much thiner diamiter, so you can fit more line of a stronger type on a reel. Unfortunately, it is expensive, but I think it works better than flurocarbon. If you are fishing freshwater, I would reccomend getting monofiloment, because braid would be too expensive when you could get plenty of mono on your reel to last you a while.

I love braid for its strength. You can get small diameter 15/4 or 20/6 (my favorite) and use a floro leader for most types of fishing.

Braid is more durable, more sensitive and you can have a 30 lb test line with the diameter of a smaller line.

One of the down sides to braid is that if used a lot it can wear down the porcelain in your eyelets and/or cause the eyelets to cut your line at a critical time. (like when you have a big, big fish on!)

Braided line has no stretch so you get a much stronger hookset. Great sensitivity, but is visible to fish underwater. You can use upwards of 80lb test in heavy cover and it will still fit on your spool and cast just fine. Most used for frogs or pitchin/flippin heavy cover.

I would say that Monofiloment would be best for your baitcaster. I would reccomend using Berkly Big Game line. It has hess stretch, and it is as hard to see in the water as flurocarbon.

I have two baitcasters one has stren stealth braid 20# and it is wonderful when i fish in very heavy cover , my other one has vicious 14# flourocarbon when i fish in areas that isnt as bad cover wise and it works very well . the cost of both of these lines are not to bad so try them out for a low price if you shop on here you can get a spool of 250 yards vicious for like $12 and a 300 yard spool of stren stealth braid for about $20 i think so its not too bad to try out and see if you like either one on you baitcaster. best of luck catching the big one.

I like flourocarbon for soft plastics and crankbaits, monofilament for topwaters and soft plastics fished over submerged vegetation, and strong braid for frogs

That would probably be monofiloment. Braid does not cast well, and it is way too expensive. The only way that I would suggest it would be if you either had a small line capasity or you need really strong line, like 40-50 pounds. This is true for bolth freshwater fishing and saltwater fishing. If you get the right brand, you will not have to spend all the money on flurocarbon. I would reccomend Berkley® Trilene® Big Game® Line. It is just as clear as flurocarbon if you get the clear color.

I would have to say the use of flourocarbon would be the best choice if you are fishing in a area you can rub against sunken tree tops or stumps and rocky banks. If you are fishing open water its probably still the best choice , its a tough line with very little stretch . But all in all use the best line that works for you and the area you fish....

never go over 20, Mine has been 20# braid because its thick enough to prevent twist but not too thick for casting... Then I can tye a 10# 3.5' leader on the end... This is the best combination in the World... Oh... If the water is deeper then 10' then add a longer leader...

I would rather use braid with a fluro leader like the other person said. That would be the preferable way to do it. If you are going to use mono, there is a type of line that I know of that is nearly impausible to see in the water. It is cheaper than fluro and you don't have to risk losing the fish of a lifetime to a hard-to-do knot. It is the Berkley® Trilene® Big Game® Line. It works like a charm. You will want to get the appropriate strength for the fish you are fishing for.

Typically I'd use floro leader with braid but you could use it with mono. I'd recommend using a double uni knot or for braid, either the double uni or an albright knot.

So is Fluro replacing the use of green line because of visibility

In a sense, yes. But there are still times when monofiloment is going to be better than flurocarbon.

Fluoro is less visible underwater than mono and also more sensitive than mono. I don't think that it will completely replace mono because there are times when mono is a better line than fluoro. It really depends on your lure to determine what line you should use.

Yes, fluro is invisible under the water so the line color doesn't matter. Fluro is also much more sensitive and has very little stretch for better hook-ups. I have used several kinds and i have found that P-line Halo and Berkley 100% are the best.

I would use either Berkley® Trilene® Big Game® Line, or Mr. Crappie Line; preferably the Berkley® Trilene® Big Game® Line. These are bolth strong, resilent, and affordible monofiloment lines. Braid is too expensive for 4-6 pound line, and it does not typpicaly cast well. The Berkley® Trilene® Big Game® Line is as clear in the water as flurocarbon line, so that would be best.
