I have a pro team 185. I installed a Motor Guide 24 volt trolling motor . Can I use the 8 gauge wiring or do i need to go with 6 gauge wiring?

You should be able to use higher guage (smaller size) wire on 24v than on 12v, simply because there are more amps driving the 12v vs the 24v. However, when in doubt, go the next guage down in size to avoid fire hazards.

Can the shaft of a minn-kota terrova be shortened?
I allready have a minn-kota terrova 55lb.and would like to put it on a smaller boat,but the 48in.shaft is too long,I need to shorten it by about 8 or 9ins.

No. There is no physical way to modify it without ruining the infastructure. You will have to purchase a new motor or tough it out.
