No. Maximum gas motor is 3 hp. If you want to use your 5 hp, you will have to go to the 12 footer.

answer 2
The transom on the SE 9 will hold up to 45 pounds. A four stroke 5 HP may be a bit too heavy, however a 2 stroke 5HP engine weighs around 39 or 40 pounds so I would try for a 5HP 2 stroke in order to make the weight work.

It's only recommended for use with up to a 4 HP motor that weighs 45 pounds(or up to 74 pounds thrust), so you would be pushing the limit.

I own this boat in the 9' model. I'm 6'6" and go 280. I take it for trout and salmon on fast moving rivers, and Lake St.Clair, near Detroit to fish for smallies, pike, and muskie. Occasionally, my son, who is 6'7" and 250 comes along. And, when we take it to the lake, I bring a Minnkota 55 and battery. Remember, this boat is NMMA rated for 1,200 lbs.
Long story short-you will be fine.

Question

Rod holders?

Does anyone know of any rod holders you could install on this boat that would easily be removable? Or are there any rod holders you would recommend for inflatable boats?

Sea Eagle makes a rod holder kit that may work. Also, they make rod holders that mount onto the transom. The transom is very small however and depending on what engine you select you may crowd it.

I have installed two rod holders on the transom seat. I have also installed 2 more on my Igloo 96 qt. marine cooler that I use for a seat amidships.

I see the advertised in the Sea Eagle catalog. They have a free paper catalog it has a lot of items in there to make the boat more user friendly such as rod holders, fish holder kits, a wheel kit for pulling the boat etc.

I use this boat in trout rivers. There is no such thing as a puncture proof inflatable, but this boat has a tough hide. Go to their website and you can see a guy hitting the boat with a claw hammer.

Question

Space and batteries?

I know I need a battery for a trolling motor, but I also want to install a small fishfinder. Would I need another battery for the fishfinder or could I use one for the trolling motor and the fishfinder?

The fish finder that you use on this boat needs to be something like a Humminbird 120 Fishin Buddy. It runs on A batteries. You really can't use the larger ones as you need a hard surface to mount the transducer. The 120 is self contained. You can mount it on the motor mount or take a wolmanized board like I did and bolt it to the transom seat, extending it about 8" off the side and mount it there.
