The hood is NOT detachable. Of course, this means there isn't any potential gap for wind to penetrate. Plus, the hood will be there when you need it.

They definitely run big. I usually wear a large, so that is what I bought, and it is very roomy (which I like) and the sleeves are a big too long (don't like).

answer 1
I seriously doubt that this particular jacket has been rated, but I would compare it to a thick, heavy hooded sweatshirt.

answer 2
Not sure about the exact thermal rating but it has yet to fail me. Not sure if I'd take it snowbiling, but I use it when I'm using the snowblower. It's probably a medium weight jacket. Wear a chamois shirt underneath and you'll be GG.

Don't know the thermal rating on the jacket, but I wear mine on windy days with temps in the teens and the cold does not get in. If you were to wear a layer under the jacket it would be even better.

Are the pockets closed with zippers?

Are they deep enough to hold car keys, a cell phone, a wallet, maybe a sandwich?

The two main pockets are not zippered but have a flap to keep contents from falling out. They are roomy, and could easily hold your car keys, cell phone and wallet, although I'm not sure you could get a regular Wonder Bread sandwich in there without crushing it.

The Upper pockets have zippers on them and they are deep enough to hold car keys a wallet and it has an inside pocket for a cell. I guess a sandwich would fit. Although, I would be worried about it getting smashed. I've had my jacket since 2009 and love it.
