You have to Purchase the SD Card Separately. I recommend using the SanDisk Brand Extreme III and 2GB will give you tons of storage capacity for Screen Captures, Sonar Recordings and allow you save GPS Data and Update Software.

The difference between the 1197 and the 1198 fish finders are minimal. The Humminbird 1198 has a slightly faster processor and the screen looks different. Thank you!

one a fish finder like this what do the fish look like and the bait fish look like on the side imaging how can you tell if there there.

and on the normal setting like on the cheaper fish finders that have colour display what sypolizes a fish. and dopes that map of the lake show contour lines. on the side imaging does it show fish off to the side alwel or does it just show structure. does it show structure on all sides of the boat or just one at a time. on the die imaging will it show my bait in the water if so will it show it at the bottom as well as if it was only a foot below the water.

Here is an image from Humminbrid Side Imaging of a Bass munching on bait fish. If you add a Mapping Card you wil lget contour lines displayed on the GPS Mapping Views. You need 2D sonar to vertical fish and see your lure. The thin narrow beam front-to-rear of DI does not make it easy to see your lure but makes it easy to see high detail images of the fish, bait and structure.

No, There are many mounting options from Transom Mounting to Thru-Hull Mounting by drilling hole to mount optional Side Imaging Thru Hull Transducer to Jackplate mounting. ANytime you mount higher than the bottom of the boat you will need XP 9 20 Transducer and AS SI DB Y Cable to get onplane speed readings since the SI transducer will be out of the water when running on plane in Fiberglass bass boats.

You can mount it on the transom. Just make sure there is no obstruction to the right or left. May have to trim your motor up a little when using the SI. I've never had to. SI is best about 3 mph. I installed mine on the transom just to the right of the motor about 15 inches in accordance with the instruction. You will see a little motor wash on the screen when you make a turn. Your viewing of SI will be while you are driving in a straight line.

No. this is not compatible with a Lowrance unit. With the built-in Ethernet connector you can network two compatible Humminbird units using the optional-purchase Humminbird Ethernet cable.
