I use it on my #3 and works great.
Very light wight and balences rod well.
Not too much reel.

Try checking out the white river classic ultralight reel. It has a click and pawl drag but palming the reel will provide more than enough pressure to handle the odd big fish

Can use left handed if you can retrieve counterclockwise and feed line from the top of the reel rather than conventional bottom feed.

Right hand retrieve on Classic LA reel?

Hi, can someone at BPS tell me if the retrieve can be changed from Left to Right Hand Retrieve? and how to change it? other reels I'm looking at simply remove clip, and flip the bearing over, doe's the Classic work the same way? Thanks

Yes, you can switch from right to left hand retrieve. Instructions:

1. Remove spool
2. Remove clutch screws
3. Remove clutch assembly from spool assembly, flip and replace.
4. Reinsert screws to secure clutch assembly
5. Reattach spool. Retrieve and drag will now function in opposite direction. *
*Line and backing should be removed from spool prior to changing direction of retrieve.

I am looking for a reel to use in saltwater. Does this reel have a sealed drag or require any special maintenance?

This fly reel does have a sealed drag. However, we recommend a quick rinse with fresh water (without disassembly) after each trip.
