No this lline does not come with a mono leader or backing. For backing I have good luck with Yo-Zuri hibrid or suffix performance braid. I am using this line for stripers up here in new england. LB test of your backing should depend on what you are fishing for.

Question

Does lead diameter vary with lb. test rating

Does the amount to lead thickness (diameter) increase with higher lb. test rating lines, or does the lead thickness remain the same and only the polyester braid thickness increase?

The lead is what gives it its strength so I'm pretty sure that it would.

Should be fine, has some stretch so unlikely to break if your drag is set properly

From the manufacturer, if you have the spool capacity 18 lb test will work great.
Think in terms of spool size and capacity for the reels you are going to use. A lot of walleye anglers use the 12 lb in order to fit the proper amount of leadcore onto the reels they own.

Question

Leader?

Has anyone had any luck stripping out lead and tying directly to a flouro or mono leader, or does everyone use a swivel?

I tie all Leaders (regardless of material) directly, to the main line. I use a Double Uni-knot. Never have had difficulty, with it.

Thanks for the question! We suggest using a quality ball bearing swivel when connecting your leader to the leadcore. When the line is used in current, contour trolling or making contact with structure/bottom the line can twist without the use of a ball bearing swivel. If you plan to use this in deep, open water with little to no contact, then removing a section of lead and tying direct is just fine!
