Manual / Instructions

Where do you put the wood chips in this smoker ? Does it come with a wood tray I only see the flame protector and a water bowl.

The assembly paperwork is there but no other instructions or manual. Was there supposed to be another manual in the box

There is 2 instructions booklet in the box. One for the assembly and the other one for how it works with a couple of recipes in the last pages. There is a plate with steel legs welded under to use as the wood chip pan. about 10-12 inches large. Place it right over the burner unit.

The flame protector is the the pan that holds the wood. However, purchase a 8" iron skillet to put your wood in and set it on the flame protector. This way the wood will not catch on fire and still smoke up a storm.

answer 4
Ok. Here is the best modification we got advise for this unit and it works AWESOME.....
First, get a large gas top stove grate to put over the round part in the bottom of the smoker where the propane will flame up. Ours fits snug.
Next, get a large cast iron pan (old one so don't use a good seasoned one that you want to reuse again) and place on top of the grate to use as your chip holder. Put soaked chips or chunks directly in the cast iron pan. **NOTE** when the door is open you are supplying oxygen to the wood so it can flame up....no worries...when you close the door it will go out.
Lastly, we bought a standard LARGE baking pan (not foil) to place over the rack that holds the water pan. It catches the majority of the drippings and allows you to put more water in the box so you only have to open about ever hour and a half.

Hope this helps!!! We LOVE OURS!!!!

I tried using the flame protector as the wood tray and the thing caught fire. I ended up using a cast iron skillet covered with perforated foil (be careful, if you cover the entire flame protector with the skillet it will smother the flame).

answer 10
Wood chips go in the flame tray that is provided. It's the pocelaine coated tray with the slots in them. I would recommend wood chunks over chips. Chips don't last as long and everytime the door is opened you have to empty the tray and add new. This causes temp to fall dramatically.

It's made from steel. I would say 16 or 18 gauge standard steel with a real tough paint coating. The kind of paint that won't peel off or scratch easily.

I've had one of these... it is a combination of painted & plated metals.

I burned one of these up (though I am a POWER) user. Just got a TEX 1400, 100% Stainless Steel, that is by far the best smoker that I have EVER owned!

Shop around to find a lower price then get BassPro Shops to price match! I saved $150 + some sales tax!

Yes it can stay outside. I bought a cover for it and I also installed 2 wheels on it so I can wheel it around. I drilled 2 holes on the side and put a long shaft through it and 2 tires. I put a 2x4 at the other end to make it level it.

Yes, this is an Outdoor Grill and can be left out when not in use. In addition, you might cover the smoker with a tarp or cover when not in. The shipping weight is 84 pounds so it might not be too easy to move. Thanks

It comes with a water bowl. It is rather small, in my opinion. But, does a good job. However, if you fill the rack with meat the bowl does not catch all the drippings. I think you could put heavy duty aluminum foil in the bottom to catch this. I am going to try this the next time I use it because I am already getting a buildup in the bottom off the smoker after only 3 uses.

The only regulation in the owner manual is if the outside temperature is cooler than 65 F (18 C) and/or altitude is above 3,500 feet (1067m) additional cooking time may be required. You might encounter when smoking meat in the cold of winter is that you will need to add more heat to the smoker. Thanks

A five gallon will last a long time. I cook my meat for 10 to 12 hours on a grill before I got this smoker. I could get at least two cookings out of it, maybe three. I have not used this smoker enough to know. But I can tell it will use less than my grill did. I would think that one bottle at a nominal outside temp (50 to 70 degrees F) and low wind you could get four cookings out of a five gallon bottle..
