Questions & Answers for St. Croix St. Croix® Rage Spinning Rods

Question

Micro guides and braided line with a leader

I'm switching over to braid for my main line on spinning gear. My old spinning rod is nice but the action is too stiff for braid. I saw the 6'8 Medium model of this rod and the action feels perfect for braid. My concern is that my leader knot won't flow through the smaller guides smoothly. I don't use microguide casting rods for this reason. Has anyone used this rod, or similar micro guide spinning rods with braid and a flouro or mono leader? Any problems with this? Any suggestions for this or any other rod that would be good? Thanks.

I have a Rage Bait cast rod. The micro guides do not like knots. They will hang up in the tip.

The last few eyes are all the same size (about the same as the rod tip eye on other spinning rods). I believe you will be fine using the leader knot. However, if possible, I recommend you go look at one before spending the money.

The action on your older rod won't be too stiff for braid. If you are worried about braid not stretching and too much power on your hook set, just ease off a little.
I have a micro guided rod and I use 15 pound powerpro, works great. I don't use a leader of mono etc but I don't see a problem with 20 to 30 pound mono leader.
You might slightly notice the knot but that also depends on how long of a leader you use to reach the guides.
