Customer Questions & Answers for
Bass Pro Shops Bass Pro Shops® Power Plus™ Trophy Class Spinning Rods

Tackle big fish like catfish, striper, and largemouth bass. These rods have plenty of backbone and muscle, yet without large diameters and weight. The secret is in the unidirectional fiberglass construction that eliminates the layering normally found in fiberglass rods. This process also adds flexibility, eliminating premature breakage and stress on the wrist. Features an extended EVA foam handle, for extra power and fighting leverage, that easily fits in rod holders, heavy-duty double foot aluminum oxide guides, hook keeper for pre-rigging and sensitive graphite reel seat.

answer 1
Will stand up to the kind of rod abuse that a 12 year old dishes out.

That said it is heavier than high modulus graphite rods so if casting artificial lures for hours there will be arm fatigue sooner than others.

Yes. It's tough and the longest model is only 7'6". It won't throw light stuff, though. So, keep that in mind

I would say a Ugly Stik regular or Ugly Stik Lite, in about 5 1/2 ft. They are very reasonably priced and you can't kill them.
Best idea would be to go to a Bass Pro store and feel them. You don't want to over-rod a youngster, but with this type rod they will be able to use it for a good while as they grow.

This rod is a heavy duty rod, not necessarly a heavy rod. Most 12 year olds would be able to handle this rod.

I used it for casting to Northern Pike and it has done well.

I also have caught walleye trolling with it and a Dipsy, Snubber, Big Jon setup. Haven't used a planer or downrigger..

Once the fish is hooked the rod will handle it no problem. I don't know what weight lures you throw, but I doubt you'll get much distance lighter than 3/4 oz.
Trolling, yes.

answer 3
Yes, but you may find the butt grip to be too short and therefore not provide enough support under your elbow.
