.38+P+ will do, but make sure you practice and clean your weapon. Practice so you know what the feeling of the round will be like when you fire the round. And with practice and a certified course you know you can put it where you want it, center mass, and clean your weapon ALWAYS.

the grain is the weight of the bullet head itself.......for personal protection you want a hollow point .......dont worry so much about the grain......
