NO,. They do well if you rinse out after the days fishing and keep it lubed. Great reel for fresh and Salt with proper maintenance.

answer 2
Only if you wash them in luke warm water after a day of fishing at the coast. Otherwise they will cause pits in your metal casing and spool. Wd-40 or corrosion-X works wonders for wiping down your reels after washing and maintains a coat of protection.

Yes, but you do need to rinse out the reel after EVERY fishing day. Salt water
can cause problems to metal if left to sit. Rinse and lube, very easy, and it will last forever.

Excellent Pike and Musky reels. I use a 5500C3 and a 5600C4 for Large Bass, Pike, musky, Cats. You can goe larger to the 6600 for a dedicated Musky, Pike Rig. Won't let you down.

Bought this reel specifically for pike and musky for a trip in Ontario Canada. Have only spolled it with line to date. Smooth and has the same quality feel of the other 3 Abu Garcia reels I own. Have read a ton of reviews on this reel and over 100 people give it an average of 4.9 out of 5 you know this reel rocks.

Yes! I own a 4600 C3 and C4. This is a great size reel for Bass and Pike. This baby will hold up to big fish. Just make sure the line test match the game. Put some 30lb braid and don't worry what hits your bait!

YES! These are great reels but the only downside to the 4600 will be how much line it will hold. Good Luck

Question

in the 4600C3, is the freespool controlled by a button behind the spool where your thumb goes, or does it have a metal thing on the right side?

or is it only the 5600 and 6600 that have the metal thing? thanks

The 5500, 6600 C3 has a metal button on the side. Easy to get to.
the 5600 etc C4's have a thumb button on the front of reel like many reels.
I own both and find either one easy to use. Just a little learning curve with each style. Hope this helps

The free spool for the 4600C3 is controlled near the handle. Clockwise tightens the spool. Counterclockwise loosens the spool. Best to start by making the adjustment where your weight barly free falls and go clockwise a quarter turn. This procedure will help in eliminating backlash. As you become familiar with your throw you can loosen or go back counterclockwise. Best fishing. Some newer models have a magnetic drags that also controls the spool flow.

The only problem I have discovered is exceeding the line weight for the reel. You will find more wear on the pawl as it grinds against the carriage as your line spools on. Grease lube helps in the friction but does hinder your throwing ability. Biggest thing is not exceed your drag to max. Big fish just have to be played out.

Question

2 questions on line (about mono and braid)

1) Re: Mono - I've read you can spool this with 20 ilb mono, does anyone know how much of it it can hold in yards?

2) Re: Braid - Is there a limit (in ilbs) for the amount of braid you can use for this reel?

I would look at Ugly sticks. I use them with my 5500,5600's for Pike and Musky. Great feel and BACK BONE.
As far as braid.
It would depend on what model. I think 5500's and up will take 80 lb and over. Braid is much smaller than mono. Line makers list what the line is equivalent to. Example 30lb braid is equal to 6-8 lb mono. Check line maker. May vary. You can get extremely large LB. test lines on these reels. Hope this helps.

answer 2
I just put 80 lb test braid (spectra) over just enough mono backing to cover the spool and was able to put 100 yards on the 6500. The 80 lb braid says it is the same diameter as 18 lb mono so I would assume you'd get slightly less than 100 yards of 20 pound mono on it.
