For this application you would need a 3 bank charger as each battery must have its individual Battery Bank Cable from the Battery charger connected regardless if it is the XPS I brand or any brand we sell. If you use a 2 bank charger for this application you would have to connect each of the 2 bank cable to each of the two batteries. Note: NEVER SPREAD A BATTERY CHARGER BANK CABLE ACROSS TWO 12 VOLT BATTERIES AS YOU CAN DAMAGE THE CHARGER REGARDLESS OF THE BRAND.

Is this unit just bad, or possibly on wrong setting? I just bought this boat with charger already installed & don't have an owners manual to trouble shoot.

Could be you have dead cells in your batteries,if so no charger will pull them back up to full power charge. Try to fully charge with a automotive, high amp charger first and then plug in to your boat charger to see if it will maintain them. if they won't hold a charge with the high amp have them tested at @parts store, auto store for dead cell. Good luck :)

LRob,
i purchase this charger for my boat and i had two types of batteries {(AMG(wet celled battery incased, no maint. req.) and a gel)}. after receiving the charger thinking it charges both Wet cell, AMG and Gel, it did not charge these at the same time. It is equipped with a chip that you have to remove before u charge a different style battery. This was not suitable if you wanted to have it mounted in your boat so you could just plug it in and your batteries will charge.

Question
Can some one explain to me how on on-board charger works
I have a small pontoon boat (16 ft) which I turned into my fishing vessel. I have mounted a Minolta Trolling engine on the front deck. I mounted a second battery in the back of my boat....however, i need to disconnect it and take it home from the marina to charge it after everydays fishing trip.

I need a system that i can charge the trolling battery when Im using my main motor (main battery).

Is this something (On-Board Marine Battery Charger) i can use.....or is this somthing that plugs into a 110 outlet at the marina dock?

Any help would greatly be appreciiated

thanks

On board Marine Battery chargers covert 110 Volts AC (Alternating Current) Household Power to approximately 13.4 to 14.6 Volts DC (Direct Current) like what you would see come out of your Boat or Car Engines Alternator. The XPS I Series has Solid State Electronic Controls so depending on your battery Type the DC output of the Charger matches the chemistry of the battery. When the charger goes thru its 3 stage process it will: A) Charge the Batteries; B) Condition the Batteries; C) Actively Maintain the Batteries

On Board Chargers while connected to batteries of which at least one battery is connected to an Alternator can work very well if all the items listed are properly working and the 3 bank cables are properly connected to each 12Volt Battery. There are many occasions where the charger does not get wired properly and other non charger problems like a bad cell in a battery or an alternator that has a bad regulator etc are present. Installation to the wiring diagrams are the 1st place to start.

For working through additional troubleshooting we recommend you call the 1-800 technical / customer car hot line that is on the product and in the manual and our team will be glad to assist you (depending on peak call volume you have to leave a message but you will gat a return call in the event you have to leave a message). The number is 1-800-824-0524.

The XPS I 5/5/5 generates 150 Watts of DC power. Because the Product is Waterproof the Heat (similar to that coming off a 150 Watt light bulb) needs to dissipate with air cooling. We have designed the Product to meets all Marine Safety requirements including thermal limits and protection. The XPS i Series charger does have thermal overload as part of its built in safety protection. In the manual we recommended always to mount the charger with 4 to 6 inches of un obstructed clearance for proper ventilation and to always make sure your compartment door is open when charging. If the charger is working properly much like a light bulb it will be uncomfortable to touch but it is working properly as well.

Question
The Power and Go Fish LEDs are blinking rapidly when I plug in my charger. What's wrong?
I have a Bass Pro XPS 4/4 2-bank charger. I just re-installed my batteries after de-winterizing my boat and am trying to charge the batteries. When I plugged the charger in, the Power and Go fish LEDs started blinking rapidly and I'm not sure if this is because the batteries are low or for some other reason. Any insight/advice out there? Thanks in advance.

Typically when this occurs there is something that is connected to the output of the charger that is not correct. To trouble shoot this instance the product must be wired expressly to the wiring diagrams in the manual otherwise there is a risk that a 12Volt bank cable on the charger is spread across 2 batteries and that bank input is seeing 24Volts when it should only see one 12Volt battery the charger will also do this with reverse polarity or backwards hook up on a 12Volt Battery. The internal protection of the charger is kicking in so in the event of accidental and incorrect wiring the charger protects itself from any further damage.

To trouble shoot this and confirm the exact issue we recommend you call the 1-800 technical / customer car hot line that is on the product and in the manual and our team will be glad to assist you (depending on peak call volume you have to leave a message but you will gat a return call in the event you have to leave a message). The number is 1-800-824-0524.
