Question
How does this reel compare to the Shimano Citica?

they are both solid, and well built....the revo accesses brakes by a through the body thumb screw, rotate and remove the cover, completly.....not good if you're clumsy like me.....the citica accesses brakes by a flip up handle that rotates to release the cover and then the cover rotates out of the way on a hinge, conected. the revo has more bearings and drag power for $10 more and probably compares more to the curado for performance and overall build. the citica is the curado with less bearings and speed....but time tested design.

From what i can tell they are comparable. Shimano does make some really nice reels but their top end reels are extremely expensive so i went with the Abu and have been pleased with that decision. Shimano tends to have less bearings in their low/mid range reels when compared to other brands. They are still very very smooth. At the end of the day it comes down to which one you like better. If you can get both of them in your hand it should be easy to tell which one you'll like in the long run.

answer 2
if you loosen up the tension on it, its great. i can pitch it about 15 yards, im sure it'll do better but i have no use to flip it further. its a small low profile so its good for flippin and pitchin. and the drag is strong so you can yank em out of that cover

It all depends on what techniques you intend to fish....I have paired it up with a 7' GLoomis med action rod....with the small profile of the Revo S and the light weight of the Loomis rod.....cant go wrong.....

The specs say it weighs 8.6 oz. I can tell you that it is light and you can cast this reel all day long with the 7' ML cranking stick I have mine on and not have your arm get tired.

Question
Brake Adjustment
Are the brakes fairly easy to adjust? Also, are the differences in brake settings severe or subtle?

Remove the side plate and the centrifical brakes are exposed on the side of the spool. Pull the brake to the end of the pin to activate that brake. Push it in towards the center of the spool to make it inactive. If you activate 1 brake at a time you will feel a subtle difference in the braking of the spool.

The side plate is removed by loosening the screw that is on the front of the reel with the screw head on the handle side. It goes all the way from one side to the other and screws into the side plate. . The side plate is removed by turning it "clock wise" after the screw is loosened. It will turn about 1/5th of a turn.
