I believe it's the number of bearings in each model. I could be wrong, but I think that's correct.

Any conventional type reel big enough to hold enough of the line you need for the fish species you hope to catch. I have several of these rods with Penn level-wind conventional reels that hold 200 yds of 65# braided line that I use trolling for king mackerel and Dorado and also use to bottom-fish for grouper and snapper in 100-200' of water. I landed a 7' Bull Shark with one of these rods set up like this, so I can highly recommend them.

If your rod has roller guides like in this picture, you can only use it for trolling. If you tried to cast it, line would probably tangle in the bearings of the rollers. Some of BPS's rods have regular guides for casting, and come in all the same weights and actions.

answer 3
Primary use is trolling and bottom fishing which do not involve casting. Because of the short length and roller guides it would be very difficult to cast very far and the bait would have to be somewhat heavy, several ounces at least. So while it is possible to cast it is not the purpose of the rod.

I landed a 7' Bull Shark with one on 65# braided line, so I'd say it would easily do the job with the right reel and line.

Yes, this rod would be acceptable for sturgeon fishing.

Question

5'6" or 6' rod?

What would be the difference besides the obvious 6 inches? I'm looking for a great rod for dorado and hopefully marlin for a trip I'm taking down to Baja. Going with the 50-80 lb.

Advice on which one to go with would be greatly appreciated.

The longer rod is a bit more flexible due to the longer length. You would also be able to clear any obstructions, such as baitwells, outboard motors, or trim tabs on the transom better with the longer rod as well.

The 5'6" will give you more leverage on a deep running, hard fighting fish. The lifting power of my 5'6" rods are incredible. However depending on the boat you are in you may want the 6' for clearance reasons.

Difference between 3B and 4B

Other than the weight rate, what are the other difference between the two models, rod diameter? action? lure weight? etc..

Per the manufacturer, OMSU-3B has a blank action of “Heavy” and OMSU-4B has a blank action of “Extra Heavy” and is designed for heavier line weight. Other than that, they both have the same components and length. The only difference is in the blank.
