1000 fps at the muzzle with lead declining in speed further away from the barrel.
PBA pellets are 1200fps (hence the supersonic crack) and then declining further away from the barrel.

I was wondering the same thing. I went to the Gamo website and it said the Big Cat 1200 shoots 1200 FPS with PBA ammo and 1000 FPS with lead pellets.

Bass Pro Shops recommends that you always use hearing protection (and eye protection) when using any air rifle.

answer 2
For shooting regular lead pellets the answer is NO. If you shoot PBA gold pellets you will hear a crack like a .22 Long rigle rimfire cartridge. If you are shooting 10-15 times you won't need hearing protection. If you are going to be shooting a lot of PBA's and you like your hearing you might want earplugs. It is generally up to the shooter.

As this gun has a muzzle velocity exceeding 500 fps, it is classified as a firearm in Canada. You must have a Firearms PAL (Purchase Acquisition License) to buy and own this rifle. The same laws covering the handling and storage of conventional firearms also apply to air rifles that exceed 500 fps.

Sometimes accuracy problems have to do with shooting habits. I shoot a 300win and have never shot 2" groups @ 200 yds. My Gamo big cat shoots within a dime @ 20 yds. Aim and squeeze dont pull.

You break the barrel in half , load your one pellet, and bring the barrel back to the locked/flush position, take the safety off, aim, and fire. One barrel break and you will achieve 1000 fps with lead ammo but with PBA Raptor ammo you can get 1200 fps.

It depends on how much you want to pay. If you are looking for a gun you only plan on using for small pests, there is no better gun for the price. If your looking for a gun for serious airgunning, I would reccomend an Evanix, Air Ranger or a Benjamin in a 22. cal.

Question
Is there any sights on the gun?
Looked at a close up pic and it doesn't appear that there are any sights on the gun??? What if you don't want to use the scope or it breaks???? If there is no sights then that's a major flaw... right????

No it does not have any sights. It is simply a gun set up for use with a scope like many traditional rifles with scopes. You can have traditional sights installed on the barrel if you so choose.
