I'd use your 5.1 with the ml for topwater, or light crankbaits. the other setup for crankbaits or larger topwater. the problem is line. i use a KVD with a 6'6"ml crankin stick myself but use braid with a florocarbon leader. soft rod, strong line. there's way to much stretch if mono was used in this setup. you can do the same thing with the heavier setup. just extend the length of leader. better to keep the higher gear ratio for the crankbaits. you won't get so worn out. consider a 7.1-1 ratio next time. you can always slow a fast reel down; but you can't speed a slow one up.

With those reels, you can throw about anything on the medium rod, except for maybe big swimbaits. I throw all crankbaits (lipless and lipped) on a medium rod, as well as spinnerbaits and sometimes even Senko-style soft plastics (weightless). However, I find the Crankin' Stick Medium to be more like a Medium-Heavy rod, so I use it for topwater frogs and throwing jigs, and even Texas rigs, and I love it for those applications. As far as the medium lite rod goes, I don't use any rods of that action, so I can't give any insight into that rod. I feel that they are too soft and can't get a great hookset or leverage the fish at all. Sorry!
