answer 1
"Fast" and "moderate" refer to the action of the rod blank. A fast-action rod will flex mostly in the upper 15-25% of the blank, while a moderate-action rod will exhibit the most flex in the upper 40-50% of the blank. What this basically means is the faster the rods action, the less of it will bend under a load. This is not to be confused with a rods power (M, MH, H, etc.) which determines the range of lure weights the rod will cast effectively, as well as the general strength of the rod in terms of fish-fighting ability. A medium-heavy rod with a "fast" action will be a good overall choice for spinnerbaits, as well as soft plastics and jigs (provided the cover isn't too heavy). The fast tip will help you to cast more accurately and detect strikes more easily. A medium power rod with a "moderate" action is just the ticket for most crankbait and topwater fishing, as this type of rod will accentuate the actions of those lures as well as being more forgiving when playing a treble-hooked fish. Hope this helps.
