Questions & Answers for Orvis Orvis Access Mid Arbor Fly Reel

Question

Does the reel really fit 5 sizes?

I notice that the 38-353-440-00 is supposed to carry 5 line weights. I have a 7wt and plan on picking up a 5 and a 9. With a bunch of spools will this reel do the trick without too much compromise?

No, it comes in 5 sizes. If you buy size 3 it is 5-7 and you could make out very well

A 7 with minimal backing MAYBE, but definitely not a 9. A 9 wt line will take up all the backing space on the spool. Get the reel meant for a 7 wt and you'll be able to use a 7 and a 9. Make sure you get gel-spun backing for the spool with 9 wt line since its thinner and you'll have more room.

I always buy a reel size a class bigger than my intended line of use so I can spool them in various line sizes.
For your purpose, the Access IV is good for 7-9wt. and I spooled my IV with 5wt line and it works just fine. And the IV is still light enough of reel for 5wt rod.
You can go to Orvis.com and chat with an agent there if you haven't figured out the answer.
