Not with composite decking; but I used a like sized piece of treated 2 x 4, and attached it with 1/2 x 3" stainless lag bolts.

Question

Bracket satisfaction

If I used the bracket only with the boat in the water (not on a trailer) and secured the bracket with a screw in the hole provided, would it work satisfactorily? My only purpose would be to approach quietly into redfish territory.

I wouldn't ever use the bracket when trailering. It's not that substantial, and the vibration would undoubtedly cause it to fail, with loss of your trolling motor. The bracket has a tendency to shift when at higher speeds, but at 1 or 2 on a 5 speed 50 lb thrust motor, you should be able to sneak up on those redfish..

I see no reason that it wouldn't... In fact, I have given consideration to almost the same thought-- Believing that the extra screw would both take any noisy slack out of the mount, but also make for a stronger mount as a whole. My thought is to use a thumb screw, so it is easy to part the mount as originally designed-- just one extra step.

The required space is 3.5'' x 4'' mounting footprint, so if you have that amount of space on your transom then you could use it.

Yes, This mount is designed to fit many applications includeing Pontoon, Bass, Jon, runabout, sail and others. The numbers on the photo 1,2,3 and 4 on the illustration indicate the four basic poitions the bracket can be installed in. The stainless steel mounts slide together allowing the motor to be easily removed.
