Questions & Answers for Bass Pro Shops Bass Pro Shops Canoe Motor Mount

Question

does it mount either left or right side

I'm guessing yes, but does anyone know for sure? Can you mount the bracket so the motor can go on either the left or right side? Being right-handed, I think I would want to have the motor on my right, not on the left as it would be as shown in the photo on the website.

Yes it will, flip the bar over to the side you prefer and reverse the clamps so the hand knobs are on the top. Be sure to note that the block is tilted in the proper direction, the top of the block leaning to the rear.

The bracket connects across the top of the canoe to the gunwhales at the back of the canoe. This bracket holds the wooden block beside your canoe for the motor to attach to.

Old Town Canoe Motor Mount

How does this motor mount attach to a canoe? My canoe does not have a flat end for a motor. Thanks.

The flat bar sits on the top of the gunnels of the canoe with the wooden block on left side and the top of the block leaning to the rear of the canoe. If you prefer the mount on other side you will have to flip the bar over and reverse the clamps so the hand knobs are on top. The sliding clamps with the hand knobs on top of the bar reach under the flat section of the gunnel to clamp and pivot on the screw. The curved metal clamp underneath should be parallel to the bar as you tighten the knob for maximum clamping force.

answer 2
Why not just attach the motor to the transom of your rowboat? The boat is most certainly set up for that purpose. Unless you mount the bracket far forward, you would not be able to span from gunwale to gunwale, necessary for stability. Would not seem like that would be a productive place from which to drive the craft.

Question

will it unballance a plastic canoe

I was wondering if I were to add the minkota endura c2 38lb thrust on it, would it have a high chance of flipping the canoe or cause it to lean drastically to one side, since I have a sundolphin scout ss plastic canoe. the canoe does have a transom mount on the back but its too far for the enduras handle

Question

Problem with water comming over the gunnel when using a 2HP Honda

I have a brand new long shaft, Honda 2HP outboard mounted on my 16 ft. Fiberglass Old Town Katahdin. The mounting bracket I am using is the Old Town bracket sold here. My problem is, when I go at a little faster rate of speed the engine shaft is causing a "wake" that then goes up the wall of the canoe and over the gunnel. The engine only weighs 26 lbs and my boat has a fairly flat bottom and sits high out of the water. How can I prevent this?

Same problem with my 2.5hp yamaha on 18' Grumman. Answer was simple. a piece of thin pliable plastic such as that from a 5 gal pail, cut to fit a 2ft long spray shield and attached with duct tape. worked like a charm.
